Has the culture of death arrived in America?

Will President Obama, Representative Pelosi, and Senator Reid and the liberal Democrats get their health care bill passed? The American Affordable Health Choices Act (whose name is the opposite of what it will do) - will increase our medical costs and make one of the best healthcare systems in the world third-rate. The bill will also limit medical research, dictate when and where you are to receive your medical care, and set into motion rationing of services. It will make our doctors slaves to a government bureaucracy that will take away their power to choose the best for their patients and make them the only target for lawsuits. It will also hurt businesses, but what is new about that? It seems about everything that is coming from our government nowadays is an assault against business.

What I just said worries me, but what scares me the most about this new government is, their intentions behind their legislation. Why do they want a health care system that gives a group of bureaucrats the power of life and death over a person? Do they hope to change America from a culture of life to a culture of death?

If you have any doubts about whether our government wants to advocate for death instead of life, take a look at a small booklet the Department of Veterans Affairs has been using since 1997. It is called Your Life, Your Choices. (also available here. See page 21.

Bush suspended the use but the Obama administration is promoting it again. The book uses subtle suggestions that it is better for society if you forgo expansive treatment.  This book makes me so mad that we are asking our veterans to sacrifice their lives again, this time for a liberal agenda.

 

Why would the Obama administration want a bill that had a culture of death as its covert theme?  To answer this question all we need to do is look at what legislation he voted for and who he has around him.  These are just a few examples:

  • In March of 2003 then state Senator Obama voted against the Born-Alive Infants Protection Act of 2002 in Illinois, even though the same worded act was unanimously passed in the US Senate in 2001.  Can you imagine voting to withhold care to a baby that is in pain and struggling to live?   
  • In 1997, Obama voted in the Illinois Senate against SB 230, a bill designed to prevent partial-birth abortions. There are also other legislations that Obama has passed or declined to pass because he advocates for death.           
  • Dr. Ezekiel Emanuel, one of two health advisers to President Obama, is another example of how the new president is changing our country from a culture of life to a culture of death. Dr. Emanuel redefines a physician’s duty, by insisting that it includes working for the greater good of society, instead of focusing on a patient’s needs. In other words, if you are not worth medical treatment, from Dr. Emanuel definition you won’t get it.

When a society doesn't care about their most defenseless members (the unborn) then the next defenseless members will sooner or later be the elderly.  This is what this health care bill is opening the door to doing. Will we start choosing death for people like we do for fetuses now?  I hope not!

But be very afraid, if you are younger than 15 or older than 40 - because Dr. Ezekiel Emanuel doesn’t think you are a viable person that deserves top notch medical treatment. If this health care bill gets passed in the form the Obama administration wants, then I guess you can just mark on my medical records “over the hill don’t treat”.
